Labral Tear

What is a labral tear?

The labrum is a ring of cartilage that surrounds the shoulder joint socket and provides stabilization for the joint. It serves as the anchor point for several ligaments and the biceps tendon. A labral tear is an injury to the labrum, which causes pain and instability.  

Symptoms

  • Shoulder pain
  • Instability 
  • Feeling or hearing a popping sensation in the shoulder
  • Limited range of motion 
  • Shoulder stiffness

When to see a doctor

  • Immediately seek medical attention if you have signs or symptoms of a shoulder dislocation 
  • Seek out a doctor is symptoms are persistent and impact daily activities

  • Use correct form when completing overhand serves
